The anticipation for the 2024 Rugby Championship has intensified with the announcement of the Springboks squad. Head coach Rassie Erasmus has named a balanced mix of seasoned veterans and promising newcomers for the upcoming competition.

The squad features a strong core of players from the 2019 World Cup-winning team, including stalwarts like Siya Kolisi, Eben Etzebeth, and Handre Pollard. These experienced players will provide invaluable leadership and stability as South Africa navigates the challenging fixtures ahead. Kolisi continues his role as captain, bringing his dynamic leadership to the fore once again.

In addition to the seasoned campaigners, Erasmus has injected fresh talent into the squad. This includes 16 uncapped players such as Jan-Hendrik Wessels, Johan Grobbelaar, and Quan Horn. The inclusion of these players reflects Erasmus’s strategy to build depth and provide international exposure to emerging talents.

The Springboks’ Rugby Championship campaign kicks off with two away matches against Australia on August 10 and 17, followed by home clashes against New Zealand on August 31 and September 7. They will conclude the tournament with a home-and-away series against Argentina.

The comprehensive selection underscores the team’s preparation and readiness for the Rugby Championship, aiming to defend their title and further cement their legacy in the sport.
